I am in love with matching the hatch-period! Fishing dry flies, emergers and swinging soft hackle wet flies in and below the meniscus are truly the vanguard pinnacle of our passion. I am a student of bug worship and entomology and study and photograph my bugs relentlessly. My tailwater is a hatch matcher’s paradise with all the classic mayfly- stonefly- caddis hatches and midge hatches all year. The ant and terrestrial action in the tailwater and the tiny spring creeks is significant!
On the big Muskegon tailwater I have developed techniques which I teach clients on how to fish 18-20 foot leaders with long “down-and–across” reach casts to very selective browns and rainbows. Emergers and dry/dropper techniques are also highly fished.
Wet Fly
The Muskegon and the smaller spring creeks I guide on are perfect for swinging soft hackle wet flies and trout spey style smaller streamers and intruders. Using the new light and longer switch rods we love the swing and grab that a trout give us when chasing emerging insects and bait fish.
